If you’re facing an unexpected pregnancy and thinking about abortion, you deserve more than a best guess about what’s happening in your body. A home pregnancy test can tell you that you’re pregnant, but it cannot tell you everything you need to know before making any decision. An ultrasound fills in those critical gaps.

At Lakes Life Care Center, we provide free, confidential pregnancy services to help you get the full picture. Schedule a no-cost appointment today, because accurate information is the foundation of any confident decision.

Is the Pregnancy Progressing?

Not every pregnancy continues to develop on its own. Studies indicate that up to 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, often in the very early weeks and sometimes without obvious symptoms. A pregnancy test will still return a positive result even after a pregnancy has ended naturally, because pregnancy hormones can remain in the body for some time.

An ultrasound can detect whether the pregnancy is developing and whether a heartbeat is present. Without this information, you could be making decisions based on an incomplete or inaccurate picture.

Where Is the Pregnancy Located?

A positive pregnancy test cannot tell you where the pregnancy is implanted. In most cases, the pregnancy develops inside the uterus, but in some instances, it can implant in a fallopian tube or elsewhere outside the uterus.

This is called an ectopic pregnancy, and it requires immediate medical attention. It is not a condition that an elective abortion procedure can address.

Because an ectopic pregnancy can become a serious medical emergency, identifying the location of your pregnancy through ultrasound is a critical step in protecting your health.

How Far Along Are You?

Gestational age matters. Different pregnancy options are tied to how far along you are, and estimating based on your last menstrual period alone can be unreliable, especially if your cycle is irregular.

An ultrasound provides a more precise measure of how many weeks along you are, giving you a clearer understanding of your timeline and what each option realistically involves.

For example, the FDA has approved medical abortion only through 10 weeks gestation. Taking abortion drugs outside of the recommended guidelines can carry serious risks to your health.
